Good Times and Happy Memories

We recently spent a wonderful weekend on the Isle of Wight, catching up with family and taking in the beauty of this tiny isle off the South coast of England. Spring is a lovely time to visit as it can get a little busy during the Summer months! We visited the beach...

...the beautiful countryside...

...and the Havenstreet Steam railway, for a journey back in time!

This week, we had the very difficult task of saying goodbye to a dear friend. He was extremely positive throughout his illness and took the opportunity to experience some once-in-a-lifetime goals, one of which took place last September when he rode 2,000 miles on a motorbike down to Land's End, up to John O'Groats and back again, raising thousands of pounds for charity. His good friend, my husband, had the privilege of sharing that journey with him and I know he will treasure the time they spent together. We have wonderful memories of our friend - who could ask for more? Here he is when they reached John O'Groats - it was a very wet and windy day, but nothing could dampen his spirits!

  1. Hi Clare,

I remember the comments you put on my blog when I posted about my dear friend Ali. I know exactly how you both must be feeling particularly your husband but so glad that he spent that time with his friend - I got to spend some time with Ali in Singapore before she got sick and I think of that time as a gift...we had a ball! I hope your husband feels the same....

  7. I was so sad to read this post today but am so glad that your friend managed to make such great journey on his bike and also made something for his charity too.

There is also great comfort in the thought that he had his close friend with him all the way there and back again. What rich memories to hold on to.

  18. Oh no! I am so sad to hear about your loss of a good friend, it is so sad..I fell so much for you and your husband..
But i am glad that you got the opportunity to have some very good moments together and that the trip left a good memory in your heart. I am shure this is not the moment to think about the good times, but they will come. It took me almost 2 1/2 year to stop crying when i looked at the photo`s of my boyfriend Mother. She died of cancer and i loved her deeply. Now i can remember the good times and all the fun we had together :)Cherish the memories.. A warm hug from Aina..

  19. Clare-
I'm so sorry about you and Mike's friend. We've been through the same thing just weeks ago and the hurt is still fresh. Cherish those moments together.
All I can say from reading that is that your friend knew how to live, we could all take a page from his book.

  20. I'm sorry to hear of your friend's passing but at least he leaves behind him the inspiring memories of a man who didn't give in and made the most of his life for as long as he could.
The Isle of Wight looks beautiful, it's one of those places that I've never visited but would like to see one day.

  21. I've been to the Isle of Wight some years ago, too. But just for a day and unfortunately, I don't remember much... ;-(((

I really would love to go back to the UK soon. I've been there several time at the beginning of the 90ies but at that time, I was not at all interested in gardening. I would LOVE to visit your Britsh gardens!

    Best wishes from Germany,
    Anita
