A Moment in Time...
I was sorting through some old black and white photos the other day and came across several I'd like to share with you all. Sadly, many of the photos have been passed around the family and become torn and marked, so apologies for the less-than-perfect appearance of some!
The first is me! Despite most baby photos being embarrassing, I've always liked this one because I think I look so happy! Apparently, according to my mum, I was a very happy 'bouncing' baby and laughed and chattered a lot (nothing's changed there then!!!)
This is one of my favourite photos. My mum and aunt decided they would like a photo with me and the cat. Of course, the cat had other ideas so my aunt is trying to keep her in the shot! Both my mum and aunt are highly amused by it all - but I'm a little perturbed at the family cat being restrained in this manner!
Here are a couple of much older photos. The first is my grandmother, Gwendoline, and was taken in the 1920's. I believe she was about 19 at the time. Just look at that 20's fashion!
This is Lily, my mum's cousin and was taken about 1930. She doesn't look particularly happy does she?!
Finally, this is my husband's family. This photo shows two of his aunts and an uncle, along with his dad, who is the youngest in the photo. This was taken in the 1930's and they are stood outside their 'picturesque' country cottage - which I'm informed had no electricity and no running water - very typical for such cottages at that time.
Having found a huge pile of these old family photos, I'm now going to make it a priority to find a lovely vintage photo album and put all my old photos in and label them up so there'll be no guesswork as to who's who.
I'd love to see some of your family photos - don't forget the baby ones!!

ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos. I love old black and white photos. My Mum has lots that we discovered after my Grandparents died and I keep meaning to go through them and make some copies. I love your idea of putting them into a vintage album. I think it's really important to keep hold of photos and label them for future generations.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos. I love to look at old photos and wonder about times past. It's such a shame that we all seem to have such beautiful pictures hidden away in the cupboard collecting dust. We should all make an effort to display them and treasure them a bit closer to our hearts. I feel inspired to post a few of mine now...but first I need to find a scanner. Hmm. Lovely to read your blog as always, and thanks for the advice on my wonky tree xx

ReplyDeleteHi. I love looking at old photos. I have done a lot of family history and sadly some of my relatives are not happy with it being on the net so I have to keep it private. However I can recommend tribalpages, they give you free photo album space so its like a free back up in case you lose your originals.
ReplyDeleteClare, what wonderful pictures. I've been going through some of my old photos and started displaying them around my house. I can't believe how my children and relatives spend so much time looking through them. I put "my family" in a small table trunk and "his family" in a decorated box on some shelves I have. It's really neat to have them out where we can all touch them and look at them and "feel" them.

Hi Clare - Brilliant photos. You haven't changed a bit!! Having met your sister I can see how you both resemble your Mum. Can't quite tell with the photo of Mike's dad though. I think you've started something here and all our fellow bloggers will be posting in black and white!! I wonder who will post the oldest photo? Sue xx
ReplyDeleteVintage photos are always so lovely - especially when they are family members! Labeling is a good idea. We've started doing that with my grandmother because she's the only one who can recognize those in the photographs.

I love old photo's too. I like to search out old wedding photo's, especially the Victorian and Edwardian ones - nobody ever looks very happpy. But we all know it was the technology they were probably taken aback with - did'nt the flash light explode in the camera mans face? How times have moved on.

Aren't old photo's amazing. So sweet. You certainly looked a happy baby. The farm behind us used to use the water for their house from a freshwater spring that's on our land.
