Decisions, decisions...
I've been busy collecting all sorts of vintage treasures together, ready for selling on my new website. We're getting nearer and nearer to 'launch day' so I thought I should get organised and gather together my stock. After all, a shop with no stock would be no use at all, would it?!
But anyone who knows me will confirm that I only tend to buy the things I like - which does make shopping an absolute pleasure of course - but it's an absolute disaster when it comes to parting with things!!!
For example, there are these wonderful old handpainted panels which I am so tempted to keep as I'm sure I'd find a use for them one day! Then there's this lovely old handpainted, age-distressed table - why aren't I keeping that?!
I also love this old roses and chippy table too...
...and I've just remembered this gorgeous 1940's French bedspread - a real beauty! Oh dear!
I'm sure you can see my dilemma! I suppose I just need to be strong don't I?!
You have some really love things, I'm not surprised you don't want to part with them. I know the feeling. My website is going to sell a few vintage bits as well as the things I make, but the things I've gathered so far I like too much to sell. Looks like we're both going to have to be strong!
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem with the stuff I sell on ebay! What I do is keep it on display in my home for a while and THEN sell it, after I have had some pleasure from it!
ReplyDeleteI have this problem too. I won't buy it unless I like it, and then I want to keep it because I like it! :)
ReplyDeleteOh dear..I would be exactly the same..!At least you get to buy and enjoy them for a time. There is always something nice to be had, so you sell these lovelies and everyone will love your site, and you can buy more....LOL
ReplyDeleteIt is such a relief to discover that I'm not the only one with this problem. I have been buying with the intention of selling for a while now but just haven't been able to part with anything yet. So I just have to be strong do I?
ReplyDeletehi clare
ReplyDeleteOh lovely items I am looking forward to your website launch
carol
I know exactly how you feel Clare!!
ReplyDeleteIf it helps, I like to keep things for a little while and then I am happy for someone else to have the pleasure of owning them...
Good luck with it all and have fun buying!

Hi Clare
ReplyDeleteI fully understand - i have the same problem with parting with treasures as well - it's the reason why my Vintage page on my website is always empty!!!!
I am going to be strong this week and put lots of items on for sale......deep breath!
Hi Clare.
ReplyDeleteYou need to stay strong just so the rest of us can have a crack at those treasures!
Do you have a date yet for the site launch?
All your things are lovely it must be so hard parting, but at least you will be able to go and buy more lovely things that you like. You have an excellent eye for buying lovely things, I wish I did but I'm just not good at shopping
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful vintage treasures ~ the 40's French bedspread is stunning! .
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind birthday wishes.
Beautiful pieces of art, if nothing else. It would difficult for me to part with them, as well. This is my first visit to your blog and I think I'm really going to enjoy it. I will return!!
ReplyDeleteI know exactly how you feel, when I'm doing my buying I always buy what I like with the intention of keeping one for me and the rest for the shop! I love the blanket, will it be going for sale?!
ReplyDeleteI just don't know ~HoW~ you can part with these beautiful pieces!! Oh my how are you going to choose!
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely things -I can understand that it is very difficult for you to decide.
ReplyDeleteBest regards,
Monika
There are a few items there that you've kept well hidden when I've called!!! I can understand why, of course! Roll on the V-H launch! Sue xx
ReplyDeleteSTOP, PLEASE!!! I cant bare it any longer. I NEED to buy these beautiful things. They are all gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh what a to do!!!
ReplyDeleteI want that pink rosy table too.
Can't wait to see your website, but fear I shall be missing out on some wonderful items.... they will be gone before I can say 'jumpin jack flash'.
Good luck and best wishes Ginny
Hi everyone! Thank you for your lovely comments. Launch day(!) should be in about 3 weeks time but I'll keep you posted! The French quilt will be for sale too! It's a lovely sunny day here so I should really take advantage and get photographing everything for the shop! Clare x
ReplyDeleteBut anyone who knows me will confirm that I only tend to buy the things I like
ReplyDeleteOf course everyone on the planet would say the same thing, right? But when it all ends up in the attic, the basement, or the closet we know we're fooling ourselves! :)
You need to be very strong!! Those are so lovely, it would definitely be hard to let them go!!
ReplyDeleteI love every thing and can not wait to see all.......when on sale. Again good luck and I know you will do well........
ReplyDeleteBe strong! I can see why you would have a hard time parting with such sweet things! My favorite is the green pitcher.
ReplyDelete*sigh* Those things are soooo pretty!!! Can't wait to admire more.... ;-))
ReplyDeleteHave a great week-end, Clare!
I could never be a shopowner, I'd want it all for myself! Every once in awhile I look at old photos of stuff I've sold on eBay and wonder why I didn't keep it. Oh the agony, and your stuff is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteYou can never have to many bedspreads!!
ReplyDeleteHello Clare I am out of hibernation and glad to know you suffered no damage from the storms we ave been seeing pics of them on the news here in the US.
ReplyDeletecan't wait for your website to start what lovely items.

Oh it's such a dilemma isn't it? I just cannot buy things I dislike for profit, and I cannot sell the things I love. I hope you find some strength to let go of a few things. Although that 1940's is surely too beautiful to part with? ;o)
ReplyDeleteGood luck! xoxo
Oh my...I will take those handpainted panels off your hands and give them a very loving home!
