...When it has been transformed into a truly beautiful, one-off gorgeous piece of vintage furniture!!!
Earlier this year, I asked Niki if she would consider making me a slip cover for an old chair of ours. It's a 1930s armchair which had been re-covered in recent years, but was now rather drab, dreary, tattered and torn (thanks to the cats!) and more than a tad grubby in places! I had a vision of a patchwork of rosey vintage fabrics and having some fabrics that I thought would be perfect, I went on the hunt for more. Of course, I regularly changed my mind with regard to colours, styles etc! So, after a few months, I decided to stop dithering and took what I had to Niki. She gathered together some of her own gorgeous fabrics, mixed them with mine and voila! this is what she created!! How beautiful is this?!! She asked me if it's how I imagined it; Niki, it is even better! I know how busy she is with her website so I am really grateful that she made time for this one-off project.
There is such a lovely variety of fabrics here; old Sanderson linen; 50s roses cotton; French florals; rosey barkcloth - all stitched together in a charming patchwork!
There's even a sweet little cushion - an added extra! I am so pleased with it - thank you Niki! The chair will live in the clock house which means there is the temptation to sit back and relax every day!
But the relaxing will have to wait - first I have to update the website with more vintage goodies!
Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

That is truly stunning, and looks just at home in your clockhouse. Niki is a very talented lady - I'll bet there's not a blogger in vintage-blogland who wouldn't covet that chair!!!
Hi Clare,
I have just been Christmas shopping today and have sat in front of my computer for five minutes with a cup of tea and found your lovely post!
Thank you for the mention - as you know, I was a little worried about making the slip cover for such a discerning customer! You have such good vintage taste that I wanted to make the cover just so, as I knew you would have in your mind how you would wish it to look!
I am very glad that you are pleased with it and I hope it gives you many years of good service!
It looks just right in your lovely Clock House - Enjoy!

I have been awaiting this blog so that I can see the finished product. It is really so lovely. I have long wanted to make a slipcover for our old chair but I have been daunted by the task ( that and finding the time between children and business too!). It looks just superb in the clockhouse too, a perfect setting!
Hi Clare
It looks fabulous in situ. But didn't we know it would?!! She's done it again, hasn't she. Niki never ceases to amaze with her wonderful talent. Make sure you lock up the CH - I think there could be a veritable hoard of bloggers making a trail to your door in the hope of bagging it!!!!!
Hope you've had an opportunity to sit and relax!

What an amazing chair. What a great idea to mix different fabrics. I haven't seen that done before.
It looks like a great place to curl up with a book on a winter evening and feel like Spring all year round.

It is WONDERFUL!!!! Wow-how clever is Niki!!! I love the yellow fabric you have on the wall too, is it Sanderson Clare? It reminds me of my bedroom wallpaper!! I'd love to see a close up!xx
I think that chair is beautiful! I would so enjoy sitting there in the morning with a cup of coffee! What a great idea!
oh that is just gorgeous! Wow Clare, you sure are creative. I'd be happy sitting in that with a good book in my bedroom :-)
That chair is so pretty, I have a big soft spot for chairs. It looks so compfy to sit in too. Clock house is looking lovely, I can't wait to get started on our summer house that is nothing more than a storage shed at the moment
Just beautiful and you have found the perfect corner for it in the Clock House! I don't think I would be able to drag myself away from it all and go back to the house!

Fabulous, I love it! I want one!
This chair is perfect! And I love the idea to use all the fabrics you love when you cannot decide for only one design. Wonderful!
Have a nice week, Monika
Hi Clare, what a wonderful chair cover.. I think this mix and match chair covers are so much more welcoming than the all-one-fabric kind, and this one is a darling. Niki is truly talented. I wish I could sit there with a cup of tea and a good book this afternoon, but alas, the children are returning from school in about 10 minutes so its time to strap myself in til bed time! x
Oh! I wish I had one just like it! It's beautiful!
Luck you!
God bless,
Terri
This is so beautiful. I love all the wonderful mixes of color and fabric choices. Just pretty and a little whimsical too with all the various combinations.
Gorgeous! Now I know how to make use of the odds and ends of some of my decorating fabrics... and I won't have to buy a huge amount of yardage to make my next slip cover.
Your blog is always beautiful and inspiring -- but this piece takes the cake!!!

Clare-
I hadn't stopped for a little while and was browsing this whole page and think that your pics are probably the most beautiful on blogs right now!
You have a great eye my friend!
Love your chair, your new cottage workspace, that scrumptious kitchen and your most magnificent views.
Thanks for the beauty this morning.
This chair is delightful! Makes me wish I had more leftover fabric so I could do the same!

That chair is fabulous and the clockhouse is so magical and perfect!
Lovely site, glad I stopped by for a visit! The roses with the frost are spectacular!!! I'll have to try that one day! Come visit, Lori

Niki is amazing! So talented. What a cozy, pretty chair. A few weeks ago I stopped in one of the thrift stores I visit & saw the most adorable little arm chair that looks exactly like yours in shape/size. It even had an all over rose fabric like the red one on yours. I got excited & then saw the SOLD tag on it. Darn. I wanted it so bad. I've been taking an upholstery class every Sat. for over a year trying to transform my ugly covering furniture (but, great bones) and it is hard work. I really need to learn the slipcovers since all my hard work gets messed up by kids & dog! :)
Hi Clare, Wooo what a beautiful job your friend Niki did!! I love it. She looks like one talented lady.
I hope you are enjoying the clockhouse. :-)
Anonymous was ME ha!!
Oh, how I love that chair. It is so sweet.
What a darling cozy chair!
Sooooo stunning! She did a marvelous job!
tHi, Clare that's a gorgeous chair...what a fabulous idea, to use all those fabrics!

Wow, I am almost speechless! It is absolutely beautiful. I love the combination of fabrics you've used. I have a slip cover on a chair in my hall and now I want to go home, rip it off and make another in a patchwork of fabrics like yours. It looks perfect in your lovely clock house.
Oh, GOOD GRIEF...that is the most perfect little chair, ever. It is just precious!!
